What does it mean to use the bike as a tool to nurture a child's holistic health?
Now that our 2023 Camp RIDE season has come to a close, I wanted to revisit the pillars of our program. We've received great feedback from the community throughout the summer. Many parents say we have the “special sauce” or the “magic” that allowed their kids to blossom on the bike. Let's revisit the framework on which the program is based.
Using the bike as a tool for a child’s holistic health 💚
So, what does that even mean?!
It means that we are riding bikes and engaging with our valley's youth in a way that nurtures their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.
Ok, cool. How?
We ride bikes to strengthen our muscles and lungs, enhancing our physical health. We can better calm our minds and gain more mental clarity through movement. Physiologically, this movement releases hormones that help us feel safe to express our emotions. We create a healthy relationship with emotions like the fear of riding over a rock that can apply to the everyday spectrum of emotions we navigate daily.
Ok, I get it. What about spiritual health? What does that mean?
Nurturing a child’s spiritual health is simply gaining the awareness that we are connected to something beyond ourselves. We take the time to appreciate, educate, and respect nature, wildlife closures, and trail sustainability. The foundation of our spiritual health is teaching that how we show up on our bikes each day can positively impact our buds, other trail users, wildlife, trails, and our community as a whole. This is where we start feeling a greater sense of belonging to something more than ourselves.
We are proud to serve the kids of our valley alongside so many other amazing organizations and businesses.
